Overview

Buckle carriers (also known as soft structured carriers) involve a waistband, a panel of fabric to hold your child, and straps that go over your shoulder and fasten back around to secure the panel.

The Mamaruga Zebulo is really adjustable for width and height and so is genuinely suitable for small babies (from around 1 month in my experience), all the way up to toddlers (around 2 years usually).  The panel synches easily at the waist to find a perfect width (this version is without velcro) and has two vertical adjusters on each side of the panel to get the perfect height. They can also help to create a great 'seat' for the child - with bottom lower than knees in a pelvic tuck (optimal positioning for most babies and children). WE LOVE THEM!

They've very similar in lots of ways to the better known Mamaruga Zensling with a few differences (quoting Mamaruga here):

  1. Zensling is made from stretchy knitted jersey fabrics - Zebulo is made from non-stretchy woven fabrics  (this is an older version made of a basic organic cotton, the newer versions use woven wrap material).
  2. Zensling has spreadable straps - Zebulo has straight, lightly padded straps
  3. Zensling has a smaller panel, approximately 43cm wide at the base of the panel, and 36cm high - Zebulo is approximately 51cm wide and 43cm high

Details

Fabric composition: 100% organic cotton.

Manufacture: Made in Turkey, Designed in UK

Washing: 30 degrees, non-bio detergent and no fabric softener please (makes buckles slippy). Air dry (don't tumble dry)

Child weight range: 3kg - 20kg

Instructions

Carrying options: Front facing inward, hip and back carry (from 6 months).  For a standard front carry, straps cross the wearer's back (which spreads the weight, and can be more comfortable to wear).

Not designed for front facing out carrying although some people do use the width synch to narrow the base to achieve this. I'd generally avoid unless alternatives aren't available to you - it's very hard on your lower back, and doesn't give your passenger a seat which supports their thighs.

How to guides:

Mamaruga produces a really good user manual, with genuinely helpful instructions and photos for each carry, written in conjunction with trained sling consultants. (Unusual!)
