Front carry (facing out)
These slings are designed to particularly support a child to be carried on your front but facing out.
Please be aware of two key risks:
- Overstimulation - In this carry your baby can see LOADS. But for many babies after 20 minutes or so, it can start to feel like an exciting TV show that they can't run away from to find your familiar face. Keep 'forward facing out' carries short and check on your baby frequently.
- Airway - Your baby must be able to hold their head up independently and be awake (usually 4m+) for this carry, so that their chin doesn't fall to their chest and obstruct breathing. If your child is falling asleep, take them out and reposition into a carry where they can fall asleep facing your body.
A great alternative to a 'forward facing out' carry for a curious baby is a hip carry. They can still see LOADS but can snuggle back into you when it all gets a bit too much or they're getting sleepy.
