Beco 8, Rust (SSC233) Due 12/05/2024

Overview

The Beco has been a really popular carrier range, particularly models with the cool air mesh feature. The Beco 8 comes with this built in, with a zippable panel to reveal the mesh layer on hot carrying days.   It's got the ability to have shoulder straps crossed on your back (X straps) or over each shoulder like a ruck sack (H straps) - really nice for adapting to different carrying positions and wearer sizes and preferences.

But it's really a carrier designed as a more 'premium' option than the Beco Gemini. The padding is more generous on the legs, there's a lumbar support panel which is detachable if it's making you feel hot, there's an integrated hood that zippers away as well as the neck pillow, and the new simpler buckles. It has lots of nice touches too, like safety elastics to prevent any fall if a buckle was undone accidentally, the ability to adjust in either direction to tighten straps ('dual adjust') and well padded straps, with an integrated chest belt on runners.

For newborn carrying it comes with a little booster cushion, although you could just raise the waistband higher (as shown in the video below).  There's definitely snugglier options for very tiny babies, but this works well much better than most options that need some kind of insert!

It does support forward facing out (once developmentally approriate and with due care)  with poppers to narrow the panel, although there isn't quite as much structure to the 'seat' as in other carriers. However, this simpler structure does feel really comfortable - you can smooth it over your baby's back in a really lovely way.

It's a substantial carrier too, comfortably carrying into toddlerhood with great back carrying features, like the neck cushion which can be flipped up to give extra back support to older children, while still leaving a hood to support for sudden nap attacks.

These are the best videos for this carrier in our opinion (and they're in Beco's recommended list too):

For newborn carrying (use the second method for older babies, with the waistband a little lower as needed, and once the panel isn't supporting knee to knee any more, move the poppers to the wider setting.

Back carrying (once they can sit unaided):
